A new Rubik's challenge with minor mechanical flaws., April 4, 2010
The 4x4x4 Rubik's cube is a great step up for someone who has mastered the 3x3x3 cube. There are some new challenges as the player will learn (no center tiles for point of reference colors, long algorithms for parity problems.. you'll see what I mean when you try to solve it).
This cube is very well made in terms of durability, which seems to cause a problem when it comes to flexibility. I have never had a piece fall out of place, but sometimes the sides are difficult to turn. There are plenty of videos online showing how one can lubricate the cube, and this helps substantially for the 4x4x4. However, this cube is not a "speed cube". It is ideal for learners who don't mind taking time to solve the cube (and will need to at first), and for those who don't want the cube to fall apart mid-solve.
Overall, a good buy, but it's best to experiment (even with cheap/import models) and find the brands of cubes that you like.
If You're Into Speed-Cubing..., March 27, 2010
If you're into speed-cubing, this cube isn't for you. You're better off paying $25+ for one of the better models like Eastsheen or Mefferts. I received mine today and pieces are already starting to pop. It turns horribly and it doesn't seem to be getting any looser.
However, I bought this cube in order to learn how to solve it. If those were your intentions, then by all means buy this cube and have fun with it.
Piece of Junk, March 24, 2010
I recieved this cube quickly and in good shape. After playing with the cube for less than 10 minutes, it broke. Complete Rip-Off. I am very upset that this product was so poorly put together.
SHOW OFF!, March 11, 2010
My son figured this out in a day or two. He has lots of fun with it. Maybe he can mention his success on a college application.
