Save Yourself Some Money?, May 2, 2010
I have owned the CS6000i for nearly 2 years, now. I also owned the EX-660 a few years ago and gave it away to a friend in need. The CS6000i/t and the EX660 are basically the same machine with different model numbers. Save yourself BIG BUCKS by buying the Brother CS6000i instead of the Brother EX660. About a $250 difference (average) for the SAME (mechanically) machine. It has the same built-in stitches, same feet and same table extension and hardcover case. You also get the *bonus* walking foot with the CS6000i that you get with the EX660. Just an FYI, folks.
Great Value, April 29, 2010
I purchased this machine after my Kenmore died (only 5 years old!). My husband did some research for me (he likes that kind of thing - I can't stand it) and found that this machine got great reviews. I've had it for about 6 months now and am very happy with it. I was surprised that it came with a walking foot and an attachment to extend the sewing surface. These items are usually extras that have to be purchased separately. I wanted to purchase extra bobbins but had trouble finding them in my area, but after a quick search online I found what I needed. I've never had an electronic machine before and I love the additional features it offers. My favorite has to be the option to have the needle always stop in the raised position (or the lowered position) depending on what you are sewing. The automatic bobbin threader is another nice feature. There are many decorative stitches to choose from as well. All in all, a great sewing machine at a good price. I would highly recommend it.
Poorly made, April 28, 2010
I have owned this machine for about two years now, and have had trouble with the tension and with uneven stitches since I purchased it. After taking it in to get serviced this year, I found the spool tension was designed too tight, making it difficult to accurately adjust the upper tension. It tends to work ok for half of a project and then knot up and jam. Sometimes changing the needle helps for a while, sometimes taking out the bobbin case and replacing it. Usually I just have to walk away and let it rest for a couple days. It's incredibly frustrating. The stitches have continued to be uneven and skip at times, too, even after the tune-up. The mechanic who worked on it said these newer machines with everything internal are harder to repair and often not made as well. He was as unimpressed with this machine as I am. I just wish I had realized it was something that couldn't be fixed before it was too late to return it.
great machine for novice hobbyist, April 27, 2010
I've taken a home ec class in high school and thats about it. kept coming across situations where a sewing machine would have been very handy for some project, or to hem pants etc. picked this up on strength of reviews. It's really good for someone looking to get a machine without needing to buy a bunch of other stuff since it comes with a couple of different feet and some tools and bobbins etc. only need thread to start sewing something. I haven't had any bunching problems, but i've been using metal bobbins that I already had. great machine. i haven't used all features, but ran through every type of stitch and used the awesome overcast foot to sort of "serge" the end of the fabric on some pants I tapered, that's really an awesome foot, I did not know would be included, but it makes for a perfect replacement for occasional light use serger.
recommended.
