Hogs are hogs, April 26, 2010
Firstly you get only one where the picture makes you think you are getting three. It broke immediately. Very disappointed child, very disappointed Aunty. Stay away form this low quality item.
Fun but cheap, April 24, 2010
Very addictive and fun to fly, but after a few crashes, it's broken ;-( I can't understand why they would include a tail rotor replacement, but no main rotor replacement. After a few crashes, the main split. A little scotch tape patch up job got it flying again, but then the little weight on the stabilizer (upper propeller flew off and almost hit me in the eye. A little super glue got it flying again, but it didn't hold. It flew off somewhere and I think the cat ate it. This is the 3d Havoc I've owned, and they all break within a few days. If they would provide replacement rotors for the main, than I would go out and buy another one, but these little buggers are playing HAVOC with my bank balance!
Not worth the money, April 5, 2010
sorry-but this is definitely not worth the price of $ 40 !!!Takes a lot of adjustment-then time to cool the Batteries after flying-then charging time-then ONLY 5 minutes of playtime-no fun for kids at all. I would NOT recommend this product!
Realy cool !!!, April 4, 2010
This is actaully 3 stars and not 4. I've tried changing it but it doesn't seem to work. So have to put it in wrting for now.
Update (11-apr-2010). I have to say, after a couple of weeks, the novelty wears of. It's still cool and fun. But not so much as the first days. Especially since the only 'control' flight we seem to be able to get, is clock-wise circkle flight. So I had to bring down the rating from 4 stars to three stars. (Hmmm, unfortunatly, it seems I can't actually change the rating). Don't get me wrong we still like it, but I think sooner or later we wil get tired of it. But wee did get interested in the Air Hogs Reflex Helicopter: 27.195 MHz - Yellow. Seems like this one is much more controleable in getting to fly straight, and even backwards! Checkout the Air Hogs website. You can see videos of most of there products on there site. But these might be somewhat less durable accoring to the reviews on Amazon. There's very few revies though, 3 or 4, so that doesn't say much yet.
My original review:
We loved these heli's. I don't know if there are any better ones on the market. Haven't really research it. But these are great for sure! One thing that plays a major factor for me is the price. I was lucky to saw these for (...) (!!!) at a local store. Since I've seen them for twice that price on the internet I decided to get two. It was a good decision. They are really a lot of fun and durable. That said, I don't think I'd be willing to spend more then (...) for one.
I'm not so sure if it is that easy to control. It took a couple of days of practicing, and after that I'm able to control it to lift, hover somewhat, and have it going around in a clock-wise circle. And I can control a little bit in making the circles wider or narrower, and having it going up, or down, and semi landing it. But other then that, just doesn't seem possible, for me yet. For example, I can't get it going in a straight line, or instead of going in a circle clockwise, to have it go counter-clockwise. So I'm not sure, if it's me, or if that's all you can achieve with this heli. It looks more like the latter to me. Still, even so it's lots of fun for (...).
One other thing that's a bit disappointing is, that you only get about 5 to 6 minutes airtime, after which you need to recharge it again. It recharges in about 20 minutes, which is ok I guess. But I feel you should be able to fly for at least 10 minutes before having to recharge. It would be even better if they get it to 15 to 30 minutes airtime. Obviously the more the better. But there's a good side to the fact that you only get 6 minutes of flight. The thing is, this toy is really addictive, and obviously the more fly time you get, the more you will be spending with this toy. So if you have a lot of other things to do, having just 6 minutes airtime is really a good thing after all.
They are also extremely durable. Before you are able to control it a little bit, it will constantly be smacking into walls, desks, ceiling, smacking to the floor ect. ect. and continuously be able to take flight back. One of the two Havoc's we got, felt in the neighbors yard, which happens to have four massive guard dogs! One of these dogs must have seen the heli for some small bird or something,... the heli got severely mauled!!! Before we were able to alert the neighbors, and get the heli back,... it was really badly chewed!!! I feared the worse,... I really had give up on the poor thing,... it had puncture wholes to the left and right side,.. the tail was broken, you could see the wires, that got exposed, leading to the rotor, the tail rotor was gone. We tried it with the remote, but there was no response. So I was ready to dump it in the trash, when my wife suggested to recharge it first and give it another try. I really taught it was a waste of time, but I just complied and recharged it. Guess what! It worked!!! I was amazed. It spun completely out of control, because the tail was broken, and it did not have the tail rotor. But it was alive!!! I was amazed! I tried fixing the tail with tape, and some crazy glue, and replaced the tail rotor. Give it another try. It didn't work. It spins all out of control. Then I realize the tailblades are not working. I'm not sure why. It seems more like the little tail moter is jammed for some reason, then that it's broken. I'll continue to see if I can fix it somehow. If I get the tailblades to work, I believe this chopper will fly again.
Although a lot of fun, I still see room for improvement. First the price should really be around (...) (that's what I paid). Second, you need to practice a little bit with it, to get it under control.
I'm rating an overall of 4 stars, because I see room for improvement, namely: 1) getting it for about (...), 2) more fly time before recharging then the current 6 minutes flight. and 3) better control to be able to control it in straight forward flight, not only in circles. By the way, the remote uses 6 (!) AA batteries, which was kind of a surprise to me. So be prepared for this, or get rechargeable batteries. Depend on how much you are going to use it. I'm still using just normal batteries, and it's holding up pretty well. But as soon as I noticed I'm spending a lot of money on batteries, I will go over to rechargeable.Duracell Value Charger With 4AA Pre Charged Rechargeable Nimh Batteries, CEF14DX4N
Bottom-line,... for the right price, it's really cool and lots of fun, as long as the 'novelty' hasn't wear off.
