great portable dvd drive, April 28, 2010
I have an Asus Netbook and this portable DVD drive complemented it nicely. The drive also works well with my Dell laptop so that DVDs can be copied from one drive to the other. What a bargain and thanks to Amazon for the good price and fast shipping!
Nice Writer..., April 28, 2010
This DVD writer is excellent for the money. I have plugged it into 4 different laptops and it is easily recognized and works like a champ. I have burned over 40 DVD's in less than 2 weeks on this and have had ZERO bad DVD's. I would look to purchasing ASUS products in the future.
I especially love that there is no power cord, runs off the USB..
If you need a simple DVD writer, this is it..

Perfect compliment to my new Asus T91MT netbook, April 24, 2010
I purchased this to use with my new Asus T91MT netbook. It's a perfect match in form and finish to compliment my T91MT. I don't use the included stand because I prefer to keep my drives horizontal. It has a Y-adapter mini USB 2.0 cable which requires two available USB ports on the computer. This is my only gripe because my netbook, like most, only has two USB ports. However, I guess it still beats requiring a separate power source. You plug the mini USB end into the drive and both USB plugs go into the computer. One plug provides power and the other is the interface between the drive and PC. If you use a USB hub, make sure it's a powered one. The drive was recognized and installed immediately in Windows 7 Home Premium. So far, the drive works flawlessly. Burn rates are good and I haven't created any coasters yet after a dozen or so disks. The drive comes bundled with Cyberlink Power2Go software, but I already had Roxio, so I didn't install the Cyberlink software. I also used the drive to burn DVDs on an older XP box that only has a CD-R/RW drive. The DVD writer works fine on there as well. I have not experienced any issues with the drive recognizing disks. I've used commercial disks as well as self-burned CDs and DVDs to load data. I tend to stick with the higher quality media when burning, so maybe that helps with avoiding issues when burning or accessing the data later. There's not much more to say other than it works great, burned fine at selected 8X and 4X speeds, and hasn't (so far) ruined any disks. Out of all the portable DVD writers I considered, so far I'm happy with this choice.
