ps3 slim- AWESOME, May 4, 2010
i got it on the day it was expected to arrive. works GREAT!! it was very nice not having to pay taxes and having free shipping! and it was the only place to find a ps3, anywhere!
HUGE FLAWS, GREAT GRAPHICS, May 4, 2010
Pros:
The ps3 has amazing graphics--well, so long as you play with an HDMI cord, that is. All of my friends who have an X-Box can't bare to play it anymore, because they don't get the quality experience of the ps3. For example, playstation has made me aware that I am very afraid of heights. Thanks, ps3 graphics.
Cons:
For something so expensive and so heavily marketed, it really has some significant flaws. One of them being that IT DOESN'T PLAY PS2 OR PS GAMES. The old, first edition playstation 3's do, but not the new edition. We can put a man on the moon, build nuclear weapons, and playstation can put a ridiculous amount of hard drive on a console, but they can't make it play ps2 games? Unbelievable. I feel cheated.
Also, my ps3 freezes, constantly. And I know this problem isn't unique to me because my friends have the same problem with their ps3s.
Not to mention the fiasco when playstation network decided to just shut off all of the original, first edition playstations--the ones bought by die hard fans and customers who paid very good money for it--for no good reason, until they were forced to resolve the issue by angry customers.
SO BASICALLY, if I could do it all differently, and I had a friend with a ps3, I'd play it over at his or her house and wait for ps4, since they are already preparing to market a ps4 when I just paid good money for this piece. X-Box shares enough games with the ps3 that I don't necessarily need a ps3.
I think this console is extremely flawed and I resent it even more that PlayStation isn't doing anything about it--except to keep stocking stores with them.
Exceeds all expectations, May 3, 2010
This PS3 Slim is the first console I've owned in a lot of time, and it really is something.
I'm more used to gaming in the several reincarnations of my PC, and considering the price, this PS3 packs some real graphics firepower. The games I've tried all look spectacular. Special mention to "DIRT 2", it looks so real it's almost unbelievable.
Having seen the first model of the PS3, this redesign is really welcome. Not only it's smaller, but also draws less power than previous PS3s. The heat coming from the back of it so far is noticeable but nothing to worry about. Be sure to leave some room at the back for the unit to expel exhaust air (10 cm at least according to the manual) and you'll be OK.
Only gripe i can think of, and it's a small one, is that it only has 2 USB ports. Not really a deal breaker to be honest, but how much did Sony save by putting just 2 ports instead of 4 or 6? Then again, in my case at least, so far they've been only used to charge the controllers, the story might be different with users of the "PS3 Eye" or some other USB gadget though. Might try a USB 2.0 hub later to get more ports out of it so i don't have to unplug stuff just to plug my USB drive to it.
All in all, I'm really satisfied with my purchase, this little gem does wonders and doesn't break the bank.
Dead after 8 months, May 3, 2010
Please beware!!!!!! When I first received this. I played a lot for first month, then maybe for only a couple of hours a month for the next 7 months. Now the only thing it will do is power up. After spending nearly 2 hours on the phone with customer service, they decided that I probably let it over-heat. WTF !!!!!! But since they couldn't prove that, I could send it back at my own expense; and they would decide if the would warranty it or not. It had been left in a well ventilated entertainment center and rarely used. Will never buy sony again
